The East Texas State Fair is back in town! This annual Tyler tradition offers unique attractions, a lively atmosphere and carnival fun for all ages.
An array of animal exhibits are returning this year. The Sea Lion Splash, which presents Californian and South American sea lions, takes place three times a day for park attendees to view. Back on land, the Livestock Show showcases over 1,900 animals from across East Texas to compete and perform throughout each day. For those who enjoy bugs, the educational and colorful Butterfly Encounter depicts the life cycle of a butterfly using real insects. These exhibits and more have been popular with both children and adults in past years, especially since agricultural education is a large part of the fair’s mission.
A new attraction is making a debut as well: featuring the Nerveless Nocks, the Flying Water Jetpack Circus will entertain audiences with bold stunts and high-tech gear.
The Optimum Community Stage, which offers several genres of live music, is also a tradition at the East Texas State Fair. This year there will be country, rock, jazz, pop and more. The UT Tyler Jazz Ensemble is set to perform on Thursday, September 29 (which is the free UT Tyler student day) at 6:30 p.m.
Commercial exhibits are set up within the fairgrounds to offer all kinds of products. Hosted by Sleep City, the Marketplace offers a local shopping experience for guests.
In addition, Food Row is returning as a staple of the East Texas State Fair. The impressive lineup of food trucks offers a wide variety of treats for fair-goers; from Mexican to Cajun to traditional Texas cuisine, there is truly something for everyone.
For 2022, the Fair will be in Tyler from Friday, September 23, to Sunday, October 2. It is located on Texas Highway 31 at 2112 W. Front St. UT Tyler students can receive free admission to the fairgrounds on Thursday, September 29, with a valid student ID. To find more information, please visit the East Texas State Fair website.
