FAFSA Application Opens Oct. 1

As this semester flies by, it is almost time to complete the 2023-2024 application for FAFSA.

Each year, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opens Oct. 1 and allows students to apply for financial aid.

According to StudentAid.gov, financial aid is “money to help pay for college or career school.” Types of financial aid include grants, work-study, loans and scholarships.

To be eligible for federal and state funding, students must complete the FAFSA application every year. The application usually takes less than an hour to complete.

UT Tyler’s financial aid department is giving out free T-shirts to the first 400 students who complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA and this survey. Winners will be notified via email starting at the end of October.

“Without the FAFSA, I would not be able to afford college in any capacity,” Student Madeline Phillips said. “I can’t get any financial help from my family for college, so the FAFSA and financial aid help a great deal.”
