Honors Program Participates in Trash Pickup

On Saturday, Sept. 23, students joined together to take part in the Honors Program’s trash pickup event.
Organized by LOGOS and hosted at the University Health Clinic, the event started at 9 a.m. with everyone dividing into two groups and cleaning both sides of University Boulevard.
The volunteers received orange neon vests and gloves to ensure their safety. For the trash pickup, they were given white trash bags with the Adopt-a-Highway logo or the sturdier, heavier black trash bags.

As students collected trash, the temperature slowly rose from its original 78 degrees, leaving people glad to volunteer but tired from the event starting a bit early.
The group collected six bags of trash — more than the usual result.
Students had interesting finds ranging from deserted Christmas ornaments in a box to various roadkill.
A total of 21 people from all different classifications came to the event.
“[It was] the biggest turnout in a while,” said Dr. Streufert, the director of the Honors program.
