Every year, UT Tyler students hurry to get a spot in an on-campus living facility. This year is no exception. On Jan. 3, the UT Tyler Housing Application for Fall 2023 to Spring 2024 will open.

The application process has two parts: Roommate Matching and Room Selection. Finding a roommate. which is the first step, begins Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. Students either form a Roommate Group or will be assigned roommates at random. After spots fill, a wait list will begin.

ROOMMATE MATCHING

Roommate Groups consist of two to four students who are part of the same community. One “Group Leader” creates the group by selecting other participants, who may edit or leave the group. If a student is not in a Roommate Group, the Office of Resident Life will assign them roommates.

Roommate Matching ends Jan. 8 at 11 p.m. and students cannot form groups after this.

ROOM SELECTION

Group Leaders select a suite for their group, while students choose a room themselves. To prevent overloading the Housing Portal, Room Selection will be staggered as follows:

  1. Jan. 10 at 10 a.m.: Sophomores and Sophomore Group Leaders
  2. Jan. 11 at 10 a.m.: Juniors and Junior Group Leaders
  3. Jan.  12 at 10 a.m.: All other returning students

When Group Leaders select the suite, they will assign each group member a bed space. Other group members do not have to be on the Housing Portal at this time.  Those who are logged in will be sent to a holding page while the Group Leader makes a selection.

Room Selections are limited to spaces that fit requirements regarding each students’ classification, contract and specific community. if applicable.

WAITING LIST

If all spaces are filled, applicants will be directed to a wait list. Each student must enter their own name, as Group Leaders cannot put other group members on the list. It is first come, first serve. Housing cannot guarantee preferences to those on the list.

Students are encouraged to arrange their groups and think about living spaces ahead of time to ensure a smooth and orderly application process.
