The Biden-Harris Administration announced its plans to begin the student debt relief plan on Aug. 24, 2022.
The Federal Student Loan Debt Relief application is open and available for any eligible students.
Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, but no later than Dec. 31, 2023.
To see if you qualify, refer to the table below.
Students who are eligible could receive up to $20,000 in debt relief based on whether they received a Federal Pell Grant in college.
Those who meet the income requirements listed and receive a Federal Pell Grant in college could receive up to $20,000 in debt relief, and others who did not receive a Federal Pell Grant could receive up to $10,000 in debt relief.
Furthermore, the debt relief applies only to loan balances a student had before June 30, 2022. Any new loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2022, aren’t eligible for debt relief.
“The Student Loan Forgiveness Plan will benefit both former and current UT Tyler students who have any Federal student loan debt prior to July 2022,” UT Tyler’s Director of Financial Aid said.
At this time, a court action has halted the relief implementation; however, students are still encouraged by the Biden-Harris administration and the Department of Education to complete applications.
