Athlete and former star student Maya Dossing is inspiring the next generation of young female athletes one day at a time.

After a successful career as a leader and crucial player on the UT Tyler Women’s Soccer team, Dossing is now sharing her experience and wisdom with the up-and-coming generation of female soccer players.

Dossing competed from 2017 to spring of 2021, and not only inspired young fans at the games but also inspired her teammates. She shone as a leader on and off the field, and was a role model for both upperclassmen and underclassmen.

A product of strong female role models and influence, Dossing carries on that legacy by being a shining example of what it means to work hard and chase your dreams. Dossing left a lasting mark on the program by mentoring young goalkeepers on the team and training them to later fill her shoes.

“She’s the best teammate anyone could have asked for,” said Kaycee West. “She did all the little things that add up to big things.”

After leading and inspiring the team through her four-year career, Dossing made the transition to coach at the collegiate level. She chose to serve the UT Tyler soccer team as a graduate assistant coach, reaching the lives of the young incoming freshmen and mentoring goalkeepers along the way. After her graduation, she began her career as a coach and teacher at Tyler Legacy High School.

“As a teacher, I have the chance to reach the lives of all students, not just female athletes,” she said.

As someone who hopes to be a role model for other young women and girls, Dossing thinks that what she does is important. Impacting the lives of the next generation and helping them become well adjusted and kind people is a huge goal of hers, and she continues to do so in every way she can.
