In 26 years, UT Tyler has gone from a two-year college to one of the fastest-growing doctoral universities in the nation. The most recent Chronicle of Higher Education Almanac places UT Tyler at seventh out of 15th in its rate of growth.
This is the third consecutive year the university has been ranked within the top 15 on this list. UT Tyler has set the goal of increasing enrollment by 50% in the next four years, increasing a student body of 10,000 to about 15,000.
“UT Tyler is excited to continue growing to meet the educational needs of our community,” said UT Tyler President Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP.
The university hopes a large portion of that growth will come from the introduction of the new School of Medicine, which welcomed its first 40 students this semester. The Doctor of Medicine program is now one of seven doctoral programs offered at UT Tyler.
The university has added several new certificate programs and is considering other distinctions such as badges.
