Why is Harvey Deck Closed?

By NATHAN WITT/Editor-in-Chief

Harvey Deck is closed to all visitors and has been since before classes started this semester. After it was inspected, the University determined it may be time for structural repairs due to the natural aging of the deck. Harvey Deck is mostly built out of composite material, however, below the structure the deck is supported by wood.

“The university is working to make the necessary repairs to ensure safety and re-open the deck as soon as possible.” – Beverley Golden, Associate Vice President of Strategic Communications & Media Relations.

The University will complete all necessary evaluations before an estimate is given on when the deck will be reopened.

Harvey Deck is located on the east side of the dam between Harvey Lake and Biology Lake. It is a popular event location for organizations during the cooler months. Student groups are hoping repairs can be made quickly.
