Times Square Grand Slam: Review from a Broke College Student
By PORTER STAGGERS/Staff Writer
I have always loved going to the movie theater. The popcorn, the seats — everything has always felt like magic. When the lights go down and the movie begins to play, I am transported to another world. Knowing this, when I first moved to Tyler, I was excited to find a new movie theater to fall in love with. However, nowadays especially, my love for the movies has been slightly dampened by my need to budget properly. Where can I find a movie theater that is of good quality, but is still able to fit in my budget?
That’s where the Times Square Grand Slam theater comes into play. I have already seen two movies there, and I had an enjoyable time seeing both! The building is more than just a movie theater, however. The Grand Slam is home to its own bowling alley, arcade, and laser tag area. The entire building is filled with opportunities for fun.
The actual movie theater section of the building is exactly what you would expect. Movie posters line the walls, and the concession stand sits in the middle of the theaters. The stand is pretty standard, with a wide selection of snacks and drinks. I tried the popcorn and pretzels; both were nice, and they were not too pricey compared to other options.
The theaters themselves are also fairly standard, but the speaker and screen quality are top notch. I truly felt immersed in the experience.
One major plus for the theater is the student discount on ticket prices. As a full-time college student, discounts such as this are incredibly valuable to me. I would recommend the theater to anyone, but I especially recommend it to college students such as myself, who could use a discount every now and again.
Any student looking for a fun time that won’t break your wallet should absolutely consider taking a trip to the Times Square Grand Slam.
