Musical performances, magic shows and chemistry demonstrations. These are just a few of the talents students showcased in front of an audience on Wednesday at Honors LOGOS Student Senate’s annual Dionysia.

“It started when LOGOS was really strong, and then COVID hit.” Jennifer Chandler, Honors LOGOS President said. “We’ve been working really hard to get it back to where it was before.”

According to Chandler, the annual festivities were once a tradition kept between members of LOGOS, but they have since opened it up to the public in hopes of making it a tradition that can be shared with the entire campus community.

This year, the expected attendance numbers totaled around 200, a large leap compared to when it was kept between organization members. This time around, the bulk of the planning was done by Honor LOGOS Vice President of Traditions, Tallon Clemmer.

“I’m kind of transforming [Dionysia] into something bigger.” Clemmer said. “Luckily, I’ve had a lot of help.”

With a namesake being shared with the ancient Greek festival of the same name, in which participants would showcase poetic talents and feats they were proud of, Honors LOGOS takes the concept and gives it its own spin, allowing students with a wide breadth of skills to perform on the big stage.

Naturally, a talent show isn’t complete without a little competition. Competing talent had the chance to win a grand prize and audience members were given the opportunity to enter a raffle.

According to Chandler, last year the winner of Dionysia choreographed their own dance routine. This year, the fight for first was waged between various musical performances, magic tricks, speedy Rubik’s Cube solving, and a chemistry demonstration.

The winners of the talent show, friends and roommates Lexi Osborn and Rachel Smith, won the audience vote with their comedic performance of “If I Didn’t Have You” from Monsters Inc.

“We didn’t start with this act.” Smith said. “We started with a more serious song and we both thought, with our personalities It’d be more fun to do a funny song.”

The duo won an Echo Pop speaker for their first place spot, and the two roommates plan to share it.

“We did not anticipate [winning] that. We didn’t really.” Osborn said. “It was good though. We’re excited.”

Honor’s LOGOS’ Dionysia Talent Show will return next year and Honors LOGOS encourages students to participate in future.
