UT Tyler Volleyball bounced back, after dropping the first set, to take a 3-1 win over Cameron University Sept. 28 in the Herrington Patriot Center.

Cameron won the first set 23-25. The Patriots adjusted and put up dominate wins (25-17, 25-18, 25-13) in the other sets. The dominance was a team effort with many players posting notable stats.

Senior Dakota Rogers–Hurtado had 19 points, 13 kills, 6 blocks, and a service ace.

“I came into today with the mindset that I wanted to improve my transition offense and my blocking,” Rogers–Hurtado said. “I was able to do both of those today.”

Rogers–Hurtado is coming off sophomore and junior years when she had an injury.

“This challenge forced me to have to overcome many personal and team obstacles,” she said.

Head Volleyball Coach Lyndsay Mashe was satisfied with the performance.

“The highlight of today for me is the fact that we were able to have good defensive plays that we were able to score on,” she said.

The team made adjustments after the first set loss.

“I just think our energy and mentality going into the game was not where it needed to be,” Mashe said. “Our biggest adjustment was shifting our mentality and getting our energy going which helps us play better.

Mashe wants to see the team more consistently play at its highest level.

“The team is up and down right now,” she said. “When we are good, we are really good but when we are bad, we are really bad too. We have to work on being more consistent.”
