Movie Review: “Venom: The Last Dance” is Fun!

I laughed, I cried, I cringed and, surprisingly, I got kinda grossed out. Here is everything you’re wondering about “Venom: The Last Dance.”

To start out with the question everyone has: Yes, you should watch “Venom” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” before going to see this movie.

Storyline wise, you could watch this movie as a stand alone. However, if you are wanting to truly feel the emotions throughout your movie watching experience, I highly recommend watching the first two installments beforehand.

Production Analysis

It’s not news that CGI has gone downhill since the early 2000’s—any movie connoisseur can see that. Despite this, for as much CGI that is in “Venom: The Last Dance,” there were only a few scenes that made me go: “This looks like Doctor Strange’s third eye….”

All in all, for a movie that is mostly CGI, I can’t complain. There were some scenes that the CGI took my breath away!

For a second, I genuinely thought I had missed the R-rating on this movie, but to my surprise it really was a PG-13 movie. The fight scenes were bloody and only slightly gory, and we actually get to see Eddie hold up his promise to Venom that he can bite a bad guy’s head off.

Even though I mention the slight gore, it wasn’t distasteful in any way, and I truly enjoyed seeing a PG-13 movie push some blood boundaries.

The acting was amazing. Tom Hardy is Venom. Hardy has the attitude, the look, the voice! He was fabulous in this.

This movie also introduces us to some new faces. Juno Temple plays Dr. Teddy Payne and became one of my favorite new characters! If you know Juno Temple as Keely Jones from “Ted Lasso,” you will also be pleasantly surprised to find Cristo Fernandez—who plays Dani Rojas—as a reappearing bartender throughout this movie.

Plot Details and Final Thoughts

This movie begins with a portal opening and Eddie/Venom getting sucked in and spit out. To this day, I am still majorly confused on what happened to them and what that meant for the story. There is never an explanation given, nor do any other characters even mention it. After the movie, I asked my boyfriend if I had just missed the explanation, and he was also confused.

Besides that bit of confusion, this movie pulls on your heart strings! I teared up quite a few times, and by the end I was sobbing. I feel like we get a more humanized look at Venom. We also get to see some of Eddie’s true emotions. This movie makes you care for our protagonist in a way the other two didn’t.

“Venom: The Last Dance” has a few holes in the plot and a bit of goofy CGI, but the acting, the emotions, and the experience was there.

I have recommended this movie to people and I will continue recommending this movie to people. Hence if you want to actually see Venom have “the time of his life,” I highly recommend going to check out “Venom: The Last Dance.”
