UT Tyler hosted Oklahoma Christian for a women’s basketball showdown Feb. 1 in the Herrington Patriot Center. The Patriots had strong offensive firepower and defensive pressure that was too much for OC, taking the win 78-50.
In the opening few minutes, the score was close. UT began to ramp up defensive pressure and ran a full-court press, which led to them getting multiple steals and scoring chances on offense.
Point guard Mileina Sablinskaite scored multiple 3-pointers.
OC had tough time matching the pace of UT Tyler, which led to the Patriots executing a bunch of back door passes and cutting through the paint for easy points.
It appeared that OC was getting frustrated. The team’s head coach argued with the referee which resulted in a technical foul.
With UT Tyler shooting very well, the team had pulled away by the third quarter.
Despite the lead, the Patriots continued with its full-court defense. OC often had trouble getting the ball across the half-court line.
The final quarter was the best showing from OC, although it was too little, too late.
