Since the University of Texas at Tyler opened a Starbucks in the library in the fall semester, it has become a frequently visited spot for students looking for beverages, food, a study space, or a place to go for a break between classes.

“Now that the new Starbucks is here, there is an incentive to come (to the library) and study,” Farra Storey, a senior health sciences major, said. “There is caffeine, snacks, and the overall smell of coffee has just made it a better study experience.”

In the café, Starbucks implemented measures to manage traffic flow. Mobile ordering options were introduced to reduce wait times.

The seating arrangements include a mix of cozy seating areas, communal tables, and quiet corners. This allows students to choose spaces that best suits their study needs.

During a recent trip to Starbucks, some students used the communal tables for group discussions, while others preferred the quieter areas for focused study sessions. The increased accessibility of refreshments and charging stations allowed students to remain in the library for extended periods without the need to go elsewhere.

“Thankfully even after my later classes, I am able to grab a warm croissant and iced coffee for a little pick-me-up before a study session,” Kaylee Passons, a senior health sciences major, said.

Starbucks is open:

  • Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Emma Richardson, a senior psychology major, said the Starbucks is attracting more people to the library

“I certainly see a lot more people than before,” she said.
