Finals week is a busy time for students of all disciplines. Here are some tips from fellow UT Tyler students to help prepare for the final exams, papers, and projects of the semester.
1. USE A STUDY GUIDE
According to students, study guides are one of the most helpful tools for finals season.
“Figure out everything you need to know [for the exam],” said sophomore Nick Horecka.
If a professor does not give out a study guide, Horecka recommends asking for one.
Additionally, second year student Lillian Lovett suggests creating your own study sheet by “going over your notes.”
2. CREATE A SYSTEM
Students talked about their own personal study habits that help them keep track of their learning.
Sophomore Citlally Lopez said that “color coding sections” on review guides and notes is beneficial.
Similarly, Horecka adds that symbols such as check marks, circles, or squiggles serve as a “visual tracker of everything needed to get done to pass.”
3. PRACTICE SELF-CARE
“Self-care is very important,” said Emily Gonzalez, a Level I nursing student. “Get on TikTok or watch a show,” she said.
Sophomore Autumn Ellgass advises avoiding crammed study sessions.
“Overloading your brain, hour after hour, is the worst thing you can do for it,” she said.
Instead, Ellgass encourages playing games with friends or watching videos in between study sessions.
4. FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU
Everyone is different. It is crucial to implement the study and relaxation habits that help you the most.
Above all, “Confidence is key for everything,” Horecka encourages.
Good luck to everyone on their finals, and we hope these tips help!
