SAN ANGELO, Texas- UT Tyler women’s soccer took down fourth-seeded Angelo State (9-5-5) 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference quarterfinals Monday night. The win marks the Patriots’ first postseason appearance and victory since transitioning to NCAA Division II and joining the Lone Star Conference.

Junior forward Katie Wong opened the scoring in the 26th minute, finishing an off-balance left-footed shot after collecting a free kick sent into the box from midfield. The goal was her second of the season.

Senior captain Natalie Jones extended the lead in the 50th minute, putting away a rebound after the Angelo State goalkeeper failed to secure the initial save. The goal gave UT Tyler a 2-0 advantage and marked Jones’ fifth of the season.

Goalkeeper Robbi Curry stopped the Rambelles’ only shot on goal, securing the Patriots’ 10th shutout of the season. UT Tyler’s back line of Gabrielle Wiebe, Ariana Johnson and Savanna Clark played all 90 minutes of the match and limited Angelo State to just nine total shots, while the Patriots produced 14 shots with eight on target.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Clark entered at halftime and helped anchor the defense over the final 45 minutes as UT Tyler closed out the clean sheet of a historic win for head coach Stefani Webb and her program.

What’s Next

The Patriots advance to the LSC semifinals, where they’ll face top-seeded, No. 1 Dallas Baptist University (16-1) at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 in Dallas.

Tyler fell 2-0 to DBU earlier this year in a game that was knotted at nil all at halftime, and now travels to the metroplex to try and lengthen their historic season by taking down a squad that has played like the best team in the country all season.
