Talon Student Media’s literary magazine is back with its 6th annual edition. “Inspired Minds” spotlights university voices and gives life to the selected theme of Cabinet of Curiosity. The theme is a reminder to maintain a sense of wonder despite the constant changes that come with growing up.

Readers can expect to find a selection of poems, short stories, sculptures, paintings, screen prints and photographs within the magazine.

Submissions for the magazine opened in Fall 2025 to any student who attends the University of Texas at Tyler. After submissions were finalized, members of the magazine’s submission committee voted on which pieces to include. Finally, “Inspired Minds” was designed by members of Talon Student Media with the selected pieces and theme in mind.

“I thought of nostalgia as the basis of that theme, and what nostalgia looked like for me, which was just being really nosy as a kid and asking a lot of questions and getting into trouble,” said Amelia Matecek, a junior studio art major who serves as the magazine editor for the Talon.

Matecek wanted to know what curiosity looked like for other people, thus the 6th edition of “Inspired Minds” became an outlet of expression to answer this question. The magazine implores reflection for creators and readers alike. She hopes the works convey a sense of self-exploration within readers.

“I think they can get a sense of what it is to explore a sense of yourself that has grown and changed and warped and altered, but also just see a lot of cool things that remind you of the ups and downs of life,” Matecek said.

When asked what she believes are the most important takeaways a reader can get from “Inspired Minds,” Matecek wants people to remain focused on having fun.

“Stay curious, do not take anything in life too serious, because at the end of the day it changes. There’s always going to be highs and lows that come with it, so just have fun,” Matecek said.

“Inspired Minds” is out now and can be found at the orange Talon Student Media stands located around campus.
