Congressman Nathaniel Moran attended an invite-only Turning Point USA meeting at UT Tyler’s Mabry Theater Friday to talk about faith, leadership and Charlie Kirk’s legacy.
Moran, who is running for re-election to the U.S. House, said he is confident TPUSA will continue to engage college-age voters ahead of the midterms.
When asked whether TPUSA’s message still resonates with young voters amid concerns about the Trump administration’s foreign policy and the rising cost of living, Moran said he was “100 percent” confident it would.
“Yesterday, and the day before, I was at the RNC convention in Dallas,” said the representative. “This was a big discussion point, that Turning Point USA continues to be across the nation a force for good and for truth because even though Charlie started this work, it wasn’t about Charlie. It was about truth. It was about liberty, it was about freedom, and it was about Jesus Christ,”
Moran also took the opportunity to speak about his faith, explaining that God had told him to run for Congress during the pandemic. He added that he is currently in a weekly Bible study with 15 members of Congress, as well as a prayer group with the Speaker of the House.
Using Kirk as an example, Moran encouraged students to center faith in their lives and work hard.
“If you want to achieve what he did, the greatness that he achieved, not for himself, but for our nation, and for God’s kingdom, if you want to do that, you got to put in the work,” he said.
UT Tyler’s chapter of TPUSA was established last year in response to Charlie Kirk’s death.
“I think it’s really awesome to see someone from this small area of Tyler, Texas, that represents us in a national level,” said TPUSA President Jonathan Roncancio. “It’s just interesting. We don’t see that every day. Someone from this area is actually making a change on Capitol Hill.”
