Dozens of local businesses offer discounts to UT Tyler students, faculty and staff.

“Students, faculty and staff can utilize UT Tyler Discount Program discounts by simply showing their UT Tyler ID to local business participants,’’ according to information on the UT Tyler website.

Business participants must provide a minimum discount of 10%.

“Being a Patriot also means saving on a large variety of products and services,’’ the website says.

Damaris Avila, a health science major, did not know about the UT Tyler Discount Program.

“I think it’s beneficial for many students,’’ she said. “Students discounts come in handy because it helps many students save money.’’

Meanwhile, Stephanie Williamson, another health science major, said she plans to learn more about the program.

“I think it’s a great idea that students could benefit from if advertised more. Saving money would be great, and I hope to find a list of merchants who provide this to students,’’ she said.

Additionally, the Discount Program creates opportunities for businesses to connect with UT Tyler customers.

The website also mentions, “With more than 10,000 students and 900 full-time faculty and staff, The University of Texas at Tyler provides East Texas with an economic impact of over 327 million each year.”
