HSA Holds a Festive Fundraiser

On Sept. 25, the Hispanic Student Association of University of Texas at Tyler held a fundraiser. It was held at the University Center, right outside Chick-Fil-A. They had a table outside, with fun decorations to celebrate Hispanic culture, Agua Frescas and more.

The purpose of the HSA is to, “preserve and promote the diversity and affluence of Hispanic culture on our campus and enrich the UT Tyler community through various activities, events, and gatherings.” Home to nearly 50 members, the association holds biweekly meetings in the Soules College of Business.

They host many fundraising events that help bring awareness to the strong culture, and stay very involved on campus, including participating in intramural sports, such as soccer. Angel Perez and other HSA members participated in such a fundraiser, on September 25, 2024.

I was lucky enough to speak to two members, Angel Perez, who has been with HSA for a while, and his brother, Francisco Perez, a new member this year. Both had a lot to say about their love for the organization, and the mission of HSA. Francisco said, “People of all different Hispanic countries—you know—they can come together, and kind of connect on that. And feel less alone.”
