So, y’all are the newspaper right?
Not exactly… but you are on the right track! Talon Student Media (TSM) is the independent, student-run media hub at The University of Texas at Tyler. We provide a platform for students to engage in various media outlets, including not just journalism but also literary magazines, podcasts, films and more. Read more about us here.
So… can anyone join the Talon?
The Talon is open to any UT Tyler student of any major and background. Whether you’re interested in journalism, creative writing, media production or just want a creative outlet, we welcome you to join our team.
…Cool! But, uh, how do I join?
Joining the Talon is easy! Simply express your interest by filling out our application form. Once you’re part of the team, you’ll have opportunities to contribute your ideas, skills and creativity to our various media outlets. Also, feel free to stop by our office at CAS 202 to show interest.
Nice, so is there any requirements for active staff?
There are only a few requirements! Our main method of communication with our members is Discord, so you need to have consistent access to an account to join our server. We also expect our members to attend our weekly meetings at 5 p.m. at CAS 202.
What can I do with TSM?
We are always looking for journalists, photographers, graphic designers, podcasters, videographers, content creator and more. Even if you aren’t interested in the media side of our organization, we also have a marketing department and administrative roles. No matter what role you play, being a part of the Talon always looks great on a resume!
Okay, nice! But, do I need any prior experience to join?
No prior experience is necessary! TSM is a place of learning and growth. We provide training and support to help you develop your skills in different media formats. We’re looking for people with passion, anything else can be taught as we go!
I don’t really have time to join a new organization, but I still want to be involved… What can I do?
