On Saturday, Oct. 4, Hughes Plant Farm hosted a fall festival that sprouted with autumn colors, live music and local charm.
Hughes Plant Farm is a family-owned and operated garden center in Smith County, Texas. Terry Hughes built the farm in 1984. Now owned by a new family, Hughes Plant Farm continues to be a place for families to come together through a love for flora in the East Texas community.
This past weekend, the farm organized their 3rd annual fall fest. This year included local vendors, a llama photo op, live music, fall themed games and a lush garden of plants.
The smell of fresh soil mixed with roasted coffee drifted through the air while visitors explored rows of chrysanthemums. Every path and space was filled with people. As a free, family-friendly event, the fall fest had something for everyone to enjoy.
Brightly colored vintage cars were lined up at the entrance of the event while the band performed both familiar and unfamiliar songs.
In-between plant shopping, guests could enjoy food from Scratch Kitchen Provisions or a beverage from Crema Coffee Company. Despite the October sun, attendees embraced the fall spirit, sipping coffee and posing beside pumpkins.
Children were taking turns petting the fuzzy llamas posted outside of the garden. Several youngsters sat around a table painting small pumpkins. Their giggles could be heard from across the farm.
Hughes Plant Farm seemed to have endless rows of plants to look at and choose from. Anywhere from cactus, to trees, to floral plants, they had it all. Attendees were filling shopping carts and baskets with one colorful plant after another.
Despite the blistering heat, every plant was in bloom and in good condition. The care Hughes Plant Farm puts into their products and customers was evident.
