Performers played pieces from Liszt to Radiohead in the inaugural Piano Extravaganza held Sept. 6 at Braithwaite Recital Hall.

After each performance, an applause from the audience and a bow from stage followed. People from elementary age to retirement gathered to hear the musicians.

The UT Tyler School of Performing Arts presented the inaugural Piano Extravaganza into four sections. The first act consisted of performances by four musicians followed by a 10-minute intermission. Audience members met the performers during the intermission. The second act featured two new musicians and two returning from the first act.

One of the performances set for this act did not take place.

“Both myself and Dr. (Mary) Heiden were going to play a duet with our fantastic piano professor Ms. Vicki Conway,” said Sarah Roberts, interim director of the School of Performing Arts at UT Tyler. “Unfortunately, she fell ill this week and was unable to do a music performance.”

The last piece was performed from memory as no music sheets could be seen.

After a riveting performance with trumpet player Micha Bell,  Dr. Sarah Robert, the pianist, said it is “a great skill to keep up on.”

The reception held snacks, drinks and plenty on complements on the performances.

More musical events have been planned for people to enjoy at UT Tyler. The School of Performing Arts posts these events on their calendar on the uttyler.edu/music webpage.
