DALLAS, Texas – UT Tyler men’s soccer team defeated Dallas Baptist University (7–7–4) on Saturday in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, sending the Patriots to the LSC semifinals for the second time in school history.

The Patriots dominated from start to finish, outshooting DBU 13–7 and holding them without a single shot on goal while tallying seven of their own. After 86 minutes of scoreless play, UT Tyler finally broke through when Luan Rangel delivered a pinpoint pass to Tony Ngombi, who cut inside and buried a right-footed strike into the bottom-left corner of the net to give Tyler a 1-0 lead. The clutch finish was all the Patriots needed as head coach Kenny Jones and his squad advance to the LSC tournament semifinals, continuing what has been a red hot finish to the 2025 season.

What’s Next

The Patriots will once again hit the road, this time to battle with Midwestern State University (12-3-3), the top seed in the tournament and the No. 8-ranked team in the nation for their LSC semifinal matchup. The Mustangs handed UT Tyler a 2–0 loss back on Oct. 8, but they’re not the same Patriot team MSU saw a month ago.

UT Tyler heads to Wichita Falls riding a five-game winning streak, and are outscoring opponents 11–3 during that stretch. This is a Patriot squad heating up at exactly the right time, and you can bet the Mustangs will get everything Tyler has by kickoff at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.
