Front Street is flooded by crowds lining the street as they watch a procession of brightly colored flowers, floats and poofy dresses. Leading this charge is the sound of drumbeats and blaring trumpets from the marching bands.

It’s Tyler’s 92nd annual Rose Parade and Festival.

This year, The Texas Rose Festival took place Oct. 16 to 19. Tyler locals had a fun and scenic weekend viewing the shows, flowers and parade, that celebrate the history of Tyler, Texas, as the Rose Capital.

Since 1933, the Texas Rose Festival has represented the spirit that brings Tyler together as a community. The festival offers enchanting events, including the Queen’s Coronation, ribbon cutting ceremony, presentations of roses, Queen’s Tea, and the Rose Parade; all vividly decorated with hundreds of roses.

The festival is held the third weekend of October. This year, things kicked off with a display of beautiful flower arrangements and works of art, crafted by artists and gardeners alike.

Many locals see the parade as the main event. Taking place on a Saturday morning, it is where many get their first look at the rose queen and court.

Many events each are free. This year organizers chose “Tapestry of Tales” as the theme certain to enthrall and entertain those who visit.

The festival has always been and continues to be a volunteer-run event. Be sure to support their efforts and the Tyler community each year by taking a look at their hard work to keep Tyler, the Rose Capital.
