The University of Texas at Tyler athletics announced that Howard Patterson, Brittany Mahomes and the 2016 softball team will make up the program’s sixth Hall of Fame class.

Patterson

Patterson led the Patriots as athletic director from 2001 to 2024, guiding the department through its transition from NCAA Division III to Division II while helping establish 17 NCAA programs. During his tenure, UT Tyler teams captured 10 national championships, 80 conference titles and more than 100 All-American honors. Patterson said the recognition reflects the success of student-athletes, coaches and staff throughout his time with the university.

Mahomes

Mahomes, a standout women’s soccer player from 2013-16, ranks second in program history in points (78) and goals (31) and holds top-three marks in assists, game-winning goals and matches played. Her 2016 season remains one of the most productive in school history, as she set single-season records for points (40), goals (18) and game-winning goals (7). She is now a co-owner of the Kansas City Current in the National Women’s Soccer League.

2016 Softball Team

The 2016 softball team earned induction after finishing 49-5 and winning the NCAA Division III national championship, the first title in program history. The Patriots closed the regular season on a 32-game winning streak and went undefeated through regional and super regional rounds before securing the championship series.

Longtime UT Tyler softball head coach Mike Reed, who recently transitioned into a full-time administrative role, said the team’s accomplishment still stands as a defining moment in program history.

The honorees will become the 24th, 25th and 26th members of the UT Tyler Athletics Hall of Fame. They are scheduled to be inducted March 28 at a ceremony for invited guests, according to the news release.
