The city of Tyler and the university have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on infrastructure and transportation initiatives.
The agreement, signed on Jan. 28, formalizes a partnership between the city and the UT Tyler’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering and Management, according to a news release from the city of Tyler. The partnership will focus on infrastructure needs, traffic flow and transportation systems.
Students will have the opportunity to work on city projects and gain hands-on experience, Traffic Engineer Cameron Williams, said in the announcement.
The release said students may assist with data collection, analysis and project development related to traffic engineering and infrastructure management. The partnership aims to prepare students for careers in engineering and public service.
Interns from the university previously have worked with the Traffic Engineering Department. The agreement seeks to expand opportunities and establish a framework for continued cooperation.
The memorandum outlines goals to improve planning efforts while providing educational opportunities.
