UT Tyler students, alumni and faculty filled the East Texas State Fairgrounds last Thursday for the annual UT Tyler Day at the Fair.
The tradition brought the university’s community together off-campus, merging classic fairground festivities with proud Patriot spirit.
Free admission was offered to students with university IDs, while guests in UT Tyler merchandise enjoyed 50% off entry.
Performances from UT Tyler’s own Spirit Squad and Jazz Ensemble lit up the stage, undoubtedly enhanced by special appearances from Swoop. Weaving through the crowd, the university’s mascot kept energy high through electrified dance and photographs with fans.
The main stage area was segmented by University booths spotlighting the College of Nursing, College of Business, School of Performing Arts and other departments. Each booth offered attendees the opportunity to meet representatives, learn about various programs and pick up special Patriot swag.
Fairgoers had plenty to enjoy.
Children with cupped hands full of pellets charged into the petting zoo while students filled into the stands for the highly anticipated pig-races. Rides and games dominated the midway, drawing winding lines and animated shouts. Aromas of smoked turkey legs and chocolate-laden funnel cakes wafted through the air, tempting visitors at every turn.
“The fair was such a fun experience to share with my friends in our first year of college,” freshman Peyton Jones said. “I’m so happy that college night was made available to students, and I definitely recommend going with your families and friends next time around!”
The evening ended with more than carnival rides and greasy food. It gave students, alumni, and families a chance to connect and celebrate what it means to be part of the Patriot community.
