The University of Texas at Tyler fall enrollment has set a record.

Preliminary figures show an enrollment of 10,541 students. This marks a 7.75% increase from the previous year, according to a press release from the university. First time-in-college freshmen has risen to 1,426 which is a 7.5% increase over the previous record set in 2022.

President Dr. Julie V. Philley expressed enthusiasm about the growth and credited the admissions team, faculty, and staff for supporting and retaining students.

“We are energized by the growth on our campus,” Philley said in a statement. “I want to thank our admissions team, faculty and staff for their dedication to supporting our students, as well as our recruitment and retention initiatives.”

It is “incredible” that UT Tyler is growing at such a rapid rate, Abigail Schoolcraft, a senior, said.

“I know that any percentage growth is a celebration, but a 7-plus percent is tremendous,” she said. “I can see why individuals gravitate toward UT Tyler.”

Graduate enrollment has also seen a boost, with a 14.02% increase from the previous year, totaling 2,765 students. This marks the second consecutive year of growth in this area.

Dr. Amir Mirmiran, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, highlighted another achievement: the university has generated the largest number of semester credit hours in its history, totaling 114,824.

“The number of semester credit hours generated is a benchmark of overall university performance and quality,” Mirmiran said in the press release.

UT Tyler is enhancing its partnerships with high schools and other higher education institutions across East Texas to attract students.

Vice President for Enrollment Management David Barron highlighted the university’s increasing appeal among East Texas students.

“Thanks to the efforts across the university, UT Tyler is a top choice for our local high school and transfer students,” Barron said in a statement.
